Concerns have been raised that 'fake Taegeukgi' has been used in various places around the world, including on the social networking service (SNS) of England's Premier League Tottenham club and on tour buses in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Professor Seo Kyung-deok of Sungshin Women's University noted on the 20th, "As we mark the 80th anniversary of liberation, many reports have come in regarding the 'fake Taegeukgi' being used around the world," and presented examples of incorrect uses of the Taegeukgi overseas.
He said, "Tottenham posted a poster through its official SNS channel on the 15th, which included the message, 'Congratulations on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Korea.' While it's a wonderful gesture not to forget Liberation Day, it's disappointing that many of the Taegeukgi in the poster are drawn incorrectly."
Professor Seo further stated, "In Dubai, where many tourists use the city tour buses, various national flags are displayed, but even here, the Taegeukgi is drawn incorrectly," adding that he confirmed the Taegeukgi at the immigration area of Mexico City Airport also had errors.
He emphasized, "There are still many places around the world where the 'fake Taegeukgi' is used, and it's important to inform accurately so that corrections can be made quickly."
