U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 18th (local time) that he has begun coordinating a bilateral summit between Russia and Ukraine.
After finishing a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, President Trump stated through social media platform Truth Social, "I called (Vladimir) Putin, and started coordinating a meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky."
He added, "The location will be decided soon," and said, "After that meeting, there will be a trilateral meeting involving the two presidents and me."
President Trump noted, "This is a very good initial step towards resolving a war that has lasted for about four years," and stated, "Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are in consultation with both Russia and Ukraine for this diplomatic effort."
Earlier, CNN and others reported that President Trump interrupted a meeting with European leaders to speak with President Putin.
