Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has been reported to want to hold a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin if his meeting with President Zelensky goes well on the 18th (local time).
According to CNN on the 16th, President Trump conveyed this to European leaders and set the deadline for arranging the trilateral meeting for next Friday, the 22nd.
Earlier, President Trump had a conversation with President Putin in Alaska for the first time in six years and discussed ending the war in Ukraine. The two leaders met for nearly three hours and, during a joint press conference, stated that they had "a productive dialogue," but they were unable to reach the ceasefire agreement that was their initial goal.
Afterward, President Trump conveyed the contents of the meeting through phone calls with European leaders, including President Zelensky, which is interpreted as mentioning relevant information.
On the same day, President Trump also confirmed on his social media (SNS) platform Truth Social that President Zelensky would be visiting the White House on the 18th, stating that "if everything goes well, we will also schedule a meeting with President Putin."
CNN reported that European leaders are expected to have at least one attendee at the White House meeting on the 18th, according to European officials. The broadcast stated that U.S. Vice President JD Vance is expected to attend, while it has not been confirmed who among the European leaders will participate.
