Jackie Bezos, the mother of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and an early investor in Amazon, has passed away at the age of 78.
The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 14th (local time) that Jackie Bezos died surrounded by family after battling Lewy body dementia.
Bezos noted through social media that his mother had been suffering from Lewy body dementia, a neurodegenerative disease. Lewy body dementia is a representative degenerative brain disease characterized by movement disorders and dementia symptoms, similar to Parkinson's disease.
Jackie Bezos invested $245,000 (approximately 340 million won) alongside her husband Miguel Bezos when her son founded the online bookstore Amazon in 1994. Today, Amazon's corporate value is estimated at $250 billion (approximately 350 trillion won).
Jeff Bezos has expressed his special affection by naming the recovery drone ship of his space company Blue Origin 'Jacqueline' after his mother. Jackie Bezos established a scholarship foundation and served as its chairperson, contributing to social welfare.
