Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized on the 15th (local time) that the U.S.-Russia summit should pave the way for a future trilateral summit involving the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine.
President Zelensky noted on this day on X (formerly Twitter) that he was scheduled to receive a report from U.S. intelligence agencies regarding Russia's current intentions and the preparations for the Alaska meeting. He wrote, "The key is that this summit must open a practical path towards a just peace and enable substantial discussions between the leaders of Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia."
He also stated, "It is time to end the war, and the necessary actions must be taken by Russia. We trust the U.S. We are ready to cooperate as productively as possible, as always."
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump headed to Alaska on the 15th (local time) to attend the U.S.-Russia summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
President Trump mentioned aboard his private plane regarding the summit prospects that the U.S. and Europe could jointly provide security assurances to Ukraine. He expressed that the possibility of territorial exchange between Russia and Ukraine should be left to Ukraine. It is reported that after the U.S.-Russia summit, President Trump plans to enter discussions on a possible ceasefire involving a trilateral meeting with the Ukrainian president or a multilateral meeting with European leaders.
