China has begun preparations for a military parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of its victory in World War II next month.
On the 10th, Xinhua News Agency reported that around 22,000 participants took part in the first comprehensive rehearsal and training for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the 'Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War' (World War II) at Tiananmen Square in Beijing between the night of the previous day and early this morning.
Before the rehearsal, the Beijing city authorities imposed traffic controls in the central area around Tiananmen Square starting at 6 p.m. the previous day. Roads near Tiananmen require identity and belongings checks for passage, but the level of control increased from the previous evening.
The commemorative event and military parade for the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II are scheduled to take place in the Tiananmen area on Sept. 3. President Xi Jinping will deliver a speech at the commemorative event and review the domestically produced new and active weapons during the parade.
