Director Park Chan-wook has been expelled from the Writers Guild of America (WGA) for a violation of regulations.
On the 8th (local time), U.S. media such as Variety reported that the WGA expelled Director Park and Don McKellar for their work on the script of the miniseries 'The Sympathizer' during the 2023 strike.
Director Park and Don McKellar produced the seven-part series 'The Sympathizer' based on the novel of the same name by Vietnamese-American author Viet Thanh Nguyen. It aired last year starring Robert Downey Jr. and Hoa Xuande.
The WGA did not specifically disclose which strike regulations the two violated. However, it noted that they did not contest the expulsion decision.
Previously, the WGA stated that it had disciplined seven writers for various violations during the 2023 strike. Among them, four contested the charges, resulting in their names being made public. The identities of the remaining three were not revealed prior to this announcement.
The WGA is a large labor union that represents 11,500 writers working in film, television, and digital content in the United States.
