U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 5th (local time) that the number of candidates for the next Federal Reserve (Fed) chair has been narrowed down to four.
After the executive order signing event held at the White House, Trump answered questions from reporters about the next Fed chair, saying, "There are two people with the name Kevin and two others."
The "two people with the name Kevin" are presumed to be Kevin Hassett, the White House National Economic Council Chair, and Kevin Warsh, a former Fed governor.
However, Trump did not mention the names of the "two others." Local media have speculated that they include Scott Bessent, Minister of Finance, and Christopher Waller, a Fed governor.
However, Trump said in a CNBC interview earlier that morning that he asked Minister Bessent about his intentions, but Bessent expressed his desire to stay in his current position.
