Russian President Vladimir Putin said on the 1st (local time) regarding the ceasefire with Ukraine, "(The conditions for peace) clearly remain the same."
According to TASS, President Putin met with reporters after concluding discussions with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in the Republic of Karelia, Russia, noting, "Russia's goals remain unchanged."
In June of last year, President Putin announced conditions for peace that included Ukraine's renunciation of joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from territory occupied by Russia, and the lifting of sanctions by Western nations.
He stated, "Prior to that (in June of last year), I had heard that it was unclear what Russia wanted, which is why this (peace condition) was announced," adding, "Now everything is perfectly clear."
President Putin asserted, "Russia's conditions remain unchanged," emphasizing, "The most important thing is to eradicate the root causes of the conflict." He also said, "Russia's greatest goal is to ensure its own stability."
He also remarked that, "If there are people disappointed with the results of the negotiations so far, it is likely due to excessive expectations," and added, "All of Russia's peace conditions must be discussed in the ceasefire negotiations, and it should lay the foundation for long-term and sustainable peace without time limits."
This appears to be aimed at U.S. President Donald Trump, who previously said he would reduce the deadline for a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine to the 8th, expressing, "I am disappointed in President Putin." Trump warned that if a ceasefire is not achieved by the 8th, harsh tariff sanctions would be imposed on Russia and its trading partners.
