A man opened fire in a high-rise building in downtown Manhattan, New York, resulting in at least 4 deaths.
According to multiple foreign news outlets on the 28th (local time), a shooting incident occurred at the high-rise building located at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan. The building houses several major facilities, including the global private equity firm Blackstone, KPMG, Deutsche Bank, and the Consulate General of Ireland in New York.
According to The Washington Post (WP), police responded to a call at 6:28 p.m., and the suspect was found dead from gunshot wounds on the 33rd floor of the building. It is believed that he committed suicide after the shooting.
The exact number of casualties has not yet been determined. Reuters reported that 3 people were injured, including one police officer, while The New York Times (NYT) stated that 4 people died and 1 was in critical condition.
According to Jessica Tisch, the Commissioner of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the officer who died in the incident, Dida Rul Islam, was 36 years old, and his wife is reportedly pregnant with their third child.
