U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with European Commission Chairperson Ursula von der Leyen on the 27th (local time) in Scotland to discuss tariffs.
On that day, Commissioner von der Leyen wrote on her X (formerly Twitter), "I spoke with Trump." She added, "We agreed to meet in Scotland on Sunday (27th) to discuss how to robustly maintain transatlantic trade relations."
President Trump sent a letter to the EU on the 12th stating that he would impose a 30% reciprocal tariff starting August 1. Reuters reported, citing EU officials, that the EU is conducting internal reviews to negotiate tariffs with the U.S., proposing to impose a 15% reciprocal tariff on all EU goods exported to the United States and setting a 50% tariff rate on EU steel and aluminum.
