The United States and China will hold high-level trade talks in Stockholm, Sweden, from the 28th to the 29th. This will be the third meeting since the inauguration of the Trump administration, with Scott Bessent serving as the representative for the United States.
Minister Bessent noted in an interview with Fox Business on the 22nd (local time) that he is scheduled to meet with his Chinese counterpart in Stockholm.
He also mentioned that the expiration date of the agreement on mutual tariff reductions between the U.S. and China, signed last May, is August 12, stating, "We will discuss matters with a high possibility of extension." This statement is interpreted as suggesting the possibility of extending the tariff reduction measures.
During the Geneva talks in May, the U.S. and China agreed to reduce their previously set tariff rates (145% for U.S. products and 125% for Chinese products) by 115 percentage points over 90 days. A second meeting was held in London afterward, and this Stockholm meeting will be the third.
Minister Bessent has been continuing bilateral discussions with the Chinese representative, Vice Premier He Lifeng, from previous meetings.
