Japan is reported to be considering hosting the Asia-integrated World Cup in 2046.
According to local Japanese media, including Kyodo News, the Japan Football Association has begun reviewing the possibility of jointly hosting the 2046 FIFA World Cup with East Asian countries such as Korea and China, along with Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia.
The recent trend of World Cups being hosted jointly by multiple countries or continents is cited as a background for the Japan Football Association's review of a joint hosting. The 2026 World Cup has been selected to be jointly hosted by three countries in North America: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Moreover, the 2030 World Cup will be held across three continents: Europe, Africa, and South America. Kyodo News analyzed that "the hosting of the World Cup is customarily circulated among continents" and noted, "The likely timeframe for it to be held in Asia is 2046."
Meanwhile, the Japan Football Association had previously set a goal of "hosting and winning the World Cup before 2050."
