Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov began a two-day visit to North Korea.
According to TASS and RIA Novosti on the 11th, Lavrov's private jet landed at North Korea's Wonsan airport that day.
Wonsan, Gangwon Province, is where North Korea opened the Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist area on the 1st. On the 24th of last month, a completion ceremony was held with Kim Jong Un, the Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, in attendance.
Lavrov visited North Korea after attending the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He plans to stay in North Korea until the 13th and have a second strategic dialogue with Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui.
It is unclear whether Lavrov will meet with Chairman Kim. However, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, noted that Lavrov would convey a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the North.
After completing his schedule in North Korea, Lavrov plans to attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) foreign ministers in China on the 14th and 15th.
