Donald Trump, the President of the United States, stated that he could adjust the tariff imposition deadline set for the 1st of next month based on the outcome of negotiations with major trading countries, including Korea.
After having dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on the 7th (local time), President Trump met with reporters and responded to a question about whether the letter sent that day was the final proposal by saying, "I would say it is final, but if the other party reaches out with a different proposal and I like that proposal, then we will change it that way."
He then responded to a question about whether August 1 was a firm deadline by saying, "It is firm, but I won't say it is 100% firm," adding, "We are open."
Trump noted, "Some countries may adjust their tariff rates somewhat," adding, "The United States could have demanded much more, but I do it my way to maintain relations with several great countries."
On this day, President Trump wrote in a letter sent to Lee Jae-myung, "I will consider adjustments if tariffs and non-tariff barriers are removed."
