A U.S. federal court ordered on the 12th (local time) to temporarily halt the deployment of the Los Angeles (LA) National Guard as directed by President Donald Trump.
Federal Judge Charles Breyer instructed the Trump administration to 'revert control of the National Guard to California Governor Gavin Newsom' on that day.
Judge Breyer's order will take effect from noon on the 13th.
Governor Newsom previously filed a lawsuit to limit the President's order to deploy the state National Guard for crowd control.
According to U.S. law, the Governor has control over the state National Guard unless it involves a significant national emergency such as insurrection.
However, as protests continued in LA, Trump classified this as an 'insurrection against the U.S. government' on the 7th and ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops without requests from LA authorities or Newsom.
This is the first time since 1965 that a President has controlled the state National Guard without a Governor's request.
