Lee Kang-in (24, Paris Saint-Germain) of the French football team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) celebrated their victory in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), during which over 500 people were arrested and two died.
According to reports from AFP and others on the 1st (local time), the French Interior Ministry stated that 491 people were arrested in Paris, and a total of 559 people were arrested in other regions. The Paris police said they arrested these individuals near the Champs-Élysées and PSG's home stadium, Parc des Princes, mostly on charges of possessing fireworks and causing riots.
The police noted that "those attempting to cause a disturbance on the Champs-Élysées clashed with officers by throwing large fireworks and other objects." AFP reported that the police fired water cannons to block the crowd approaching the Arc de Triomphe at the end of the Champs-Élysées.
On the day of the finals, which was on the 31st of last month, the Paris police closed the shops on the Champs-Élysées starting at 7 p.m. They also prohibited vehicular traffic in some areas, including around the Arc de Triomphe.
Despite these measures, according to the French Interior Ministry, two people died and 192 were injured in incidents that occurred during the celebrations nationwide.
Meanwhile, PSG claimed victory the previous day, defeating Inter Milan (Italy) 5-0 in the UCL final held in Munich, Germany.
