U.S. President Donald Trump strongly criticized the decision by the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) to invalidate his reciprocal tariff order as a 'terrible and political decision.'
President Trump, on the 29th (local time), stated through his social media platform Truth Social, 'The Court of International Trade unbelievably ruled against the tariff that was desperately needed for the U.S.,' and added, 'Fortunately, the appeals court has put a stay on that order.'
He also asked, 'How can three judges of the Court of International Trade inflict such great harm on the United States?' and questioned, 'Is it merely out of hatred for Trump, or could there be some other reason?'
President Trump defended his tariff policy, stating, 'Only because I successfully used tariffs have trillions of dollars already started to pour into the U.S. from other countries. This money would never have come without these tariffs.'
'This ruling by the Court of International Trade is very wrong and highly political. I hope the Supreme Court will swiftly and decisively overturn this terrible ruling that threatens the nation,' he said, adding, 'If this ruling is upheld, it will completely destroy presidential power.'
President Trump also remarked, 'This ruling is celebrated in every country in the world except the United States. Radical left judges and a few very bad people are destroying America,' noting, 'Under this ruling, our country will lose trillions of dollars.'
Previously, on the 28th, the CIT ruled that Trump's imposition of reciprocal tariffs and country-specific tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) 'violated congressional authority,' stating that 'the tariffs should be invalidated.'
