U.S. President Donald Trump strongly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin right after Russia attacked Ukraine with a large-scale drone strike, resulting in civilian casualties.
According to Reuters, on the 27th (local time), the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia deployed a total of 149 attack drones from the night before until early that morning, and it shot down 57 of them. The remaining 67 reportedly disappeared from radar before reaching their targets, which is analyzed to be due to electronic warfare systems disrupting their signals.
In the drone strike in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region in southeastern Ukraine, one man was killed and a 14-year-old girl was injured. Governor Serhiy Lysak noted, "Two apartment buildings were damaged, one of which caught fire." Additionally, the regional farm suffered losses with 500 cattle dying due to the drone attack.
This large-scale drone strike by Russia occurred right after President Trump visited the Vatican to attend the funeral of Pope Francis and held a separate meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
President Trump criticized sharply through his social media platform "Truth Social" after his private meeting with President Zelensky, stating, "Putin had no reason to launch missiles at civilian areas and cities in recent days," and added, "It seems he has no intention of ending the war."
Trump also mentioned banking issues and secondary sanctions, stating, "Too many people are losing their lives right now."
