On the 24th (local time) at around 12:30 p.m., a stabbing incident occurred at a private high school in Nantes, western France, resulting in the death of one student and injuries to three others.
According to police officials, the suspect is a male student in the second year of high school who entered a classroom during lunch break and stabbed a female student to death, as reported by Le Monde and Le Figaro.
The suspect fled the scene and attacked three other students, injuring them. He was subdued by school staff and was arrested by the police who arrived after being notified.
The deceased female student is said to have had a past romantic relationship with the suspect.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau and Education Minister Élisabeth Borne are expected to visit the scene of the incident.
In France, there have been a series of youth stabbing incidents both inside and outside schools in recent months. In response, the government plans to strengthen regulations requiring that any student found carrying a weapon on school grounds be referred to a disciplinary committee.
