U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 20th (local time) through social media platform Truth Social, "We are serious about the tariff."
On that day, Trump noted, "Many world leaders and corporate executives have come to me asking for tariff reduction since the declaration of 'Liberation Day' (the day of reciprocal tariff announcement on April 2). It is good that the world knows we are serious."
He added, "They must correct decades of unfair practices against the U.S. However, it will not be easy for them," and asserted, "We must rebuild the wealth of our great nation and establish true reciprocity."
Trump emphasized once again that trade partners should invest in the U.S. He said, "What I want to tell those who want the easiest way is, 'Come to America, and build (production facilities) in America.'"
He also mentioned eight details of "non-tariff abuses" that trade partners have engaged in against the U.S. Trump first pointed to currency manipulation (meaning exchange rate manipulation) and listed tariffs, value-added taxes acting as export subsidies, dumping at prices lower than costs, export subsidies, and government subsidies.
