The Korea Road Traffic Authority conducted a survey targeting participants of its traffic safety education on drunk driving. The survey results showed that the most common reason for drunk driving was 'due to the absence of designated drivers or public transportation,' with 20.7% of responses, the authority reported on the 18th. This survey was conducted among 1,518 participants who received drunk driving traffic safety education last month.
The proportion of participants who answered 'after a long time had passed since drinking' was also 20.4%. Following that, the reasons included ▲ due to the distance from home (18.1%) ▲ because they hadn't drunk much (12.1%) ▲ because they thought they wouldn't have an accident while driving drunk (10.5%) ▲ because it would be inconvenient to leave the car and pick it up the next day (7.8%) ▲ because they thought there wouldn't be any enforcement (6.6%) ▲ others (3.8%).
When looking at the age distribution of participants in the drunk driving traffic safety education last month, those in their 40s represented the highest percentage at 29.8%. This was followed by ▲ those in their 30s (27.7%) ▲ those in their 50s (22.5%) ▲ those aged 60 and over (10.7%) ▲ those in their 20s (9.4%).
In terms of driving experience, those with over 20 years of experience accounted for 38.7%, while ▲ those with 20 years or less (30.4%) ▲ those with 10 years or less (17.3%) ▲ those with 5 years or less (9.6%) ▲ those with 2 years or less (4.1%) followed. It is interpreted that the longer the driving experience, the weaker the awareness of the dangers of drunk driving.
The drunk driving traffic safety education aims to inform drunk drivers of the seriousness of drunk driving and to establish a practical prevention plan. A total of 98.9% of participants responded that 'they became aware of the dangers of drunk driving through this education,' and 99.3% stated that 'they would practice drunk driving prevention methods.'
