The diplomatic and security representatives from the United States, Ukraine, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany held a relay talks for Ukraine's peace negotiations.
On the 17th (local time), the five countries met in Paris, France, to discuss peace negotiation plans to end Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
This marked the first high-level dialogue effectively held between the international coalition 'the Coalition of the Will' led by the United Kingdom and France for Ukraine's security guarantees and the administration of Donald Trump.
According to the Élysée Palace, French President Emmanuel Macron discussed peace negotiation plans during a lunch meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
This was the first official visit to France by Secretary Rubio and Special Envoy Witkoff.
Attending the meeting were Jean-Noël Barrot, France's Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Emmanuel Bonne, Presidential Diplomatic Advisor. Jonathan Powell, the United Kingdom's National Security Adviser, also attended at President Macron's invitation.
In conjunction with the visit of Secretary Rubio and Special Envoy Witkoff, Andriy Yermak, Head of the President's Office of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Rustem Umerov, Minister of Defense, visited Paris. Jens Plötner, the National Security Adviser of Germany, also visited the Élysée Palace.
These high-level delegations were reportedly engaged in multilateral talks from the morning until the afternoon.
At 10 a.m., the delegations from France, the United Kingdom, and Germany met with the Ukrainian delegation, and at 11:30 a.m., the European representatives met separately with the U.S. delegation.
A comprehensive meeting involving the United States, Ukraine, and European delegations took place at 3 p.m., followed by a further meeting that included President Macron and Keith Kellogg, the U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine, at 5 p.m.
Details of what specifically was discussed during the meeting have not yet been disclosed. However, since this meeting was held six days after Special Envoy Witkoff visited Russia and met with President Vladimir Putin on the 11th, it can be inferred that President Putin's stance on peace negotiations was also shared.
The Élysée Palace stated that the participants achieved consensus on Ukraine's 'robust peace' goal, noting, "The representatives of the five countries are scheduled to meet again next week in London."
