The U.S. Department of State noted it respects Korea's democratic institutions and the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, emphasizing that it will work closely with the Korean government to ensure the stability and continuity of the Korea-U.S. alliance.
On the 4th (local time), the Department of State stated in response to written commentary requests from Korean media, "The United States respects Korea's legal procedures and the Constitutional Court's decision." It added, "Until a new president is elected, we will work with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, acting in his capacity, and the Korean government to ensure the stability of the alliance."
The Department of State also stated, "The United States looks forward to a future of close cooperation that brings security and prosperity to both countries," and reaffirmed "the continued strength of the Korea-U.S. alliance and our commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea."
