On the 28th of last month (local time), in the aftermath of the earthquake in Myanmar, a Korean man was captured jumping over a collapsing building bridge in Bangkok, Thailand, while searching for his wife and daughter.
According to local media on the 1st, recent videos circulating on social media showed the 52nd-floor sky bridge connecting buildings in a high-rise condominium complex in downtown Bangkok breaking apart during the earthquake. The video captured a man running through the broken bridge and jumping over it.
The protagonist who dramatically survived the perilous situation was Korean Kwon Young-jun, 38. On the 30th of last month, Kwon's wife shared this story on social media, and the tale of her 'brave husband' gained widespread attention.
Kwon, who is married to a Thai woman and has a daughter, was exercising on the 52nd floor of Tower C of the Park Origin condominium in Bangkok at the time of the earthquake. His wife and daughter were on the 30th floor of Tower B, connected by the sky bridge.
In the situation where the building was shaking violently, Kwon jumped over the sky bridge, which was 50 stories off the ground, with the determination to meet his family. Videos from that time show the middle section of the sky bridge almost severed, with debris falling to the ground.
In an interview with local media, Kwon said, 'At that time, my only concern was for my child, and all I could think about was that I had to take care of my family.' After barely crossing the bridge, he confirmed that his family had evacuated to a safe place and walked down to meet them from the 40th floor.
Kwon was reported to have sustained minor injuries from the bridge scraping against him. Although the building with the broken consolidation bridge was found to have no major issues in the safety inspection, Kwon's family is currently staying in another area of Bangkok.
