On the 30th (local time), King Charles III of the United Kingdom expressed condolences and comfort for the damage caused by a large wildfire in the Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk regions through the British Embassy in Korea.

He noted, “My wife (Queen Camilla) and I were deeply shocked by the news of the wildfire,” and “I remember the warm hospitality of the local people when my mother (Queen Elizabeth II) made a state visit in 1999.” Queen Elizabeth II visited Korea in 1999 and visited Andong.

Charles III remarked that it is difficult to gauge the scale of the wildfire damage and the resulting suffering, saying, “I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”

He also added, “I specifically pray for everyone who has lost their homes.” He further mentioned, “I think of the courage of the emergency rescue DAEWON and the local community who did not spare support in this difficult and dangerous situation.”
