China has decided to provide 100 million yuan (approximately 20.2 billion won) in emergency aid to Myanmar, which suffered significant damage from a magnitude 7.7 earthquake.
According to the state-run Xinhua News Agency on the 29th, Li Ming, a Spokesperson for the China International Development Cooperation Agency, noted that they decided to provide 100 million yuan in emergency humanitarian relief assistance at the request of the Myanmar government.
The first aid materials sent by the Chinese government will depart on the 31st, and they plan to continue providing support based on the needs of Myanmar.
Yunnan Province, adjacent to Myanmar, previously dispatched a medical rescue team of 37 members to Myanmar by air on the morning of the same day.
Chinese media reported that they are the first international rescue team to arrive in Myanmar in connection with this earthquake.
They arrived at Yangon International Airport at 7 a.m. local time in Myanmar with 112 sets of emergency rescue supplies, including life detection devices, earthquake alarm systems, and rescue equipment. They are set to head to the earthquake-stricken areas immediately to commence rescue operations.
Yunnan Province also sent the first relief supplies, including 80 tents and 290 blankets, by air from Kunming to Myanmar, and the Emergency Management Agency and the National Agricultural Products Reserve Corporation are mobilizing emergency response systems to prepare and transport relief items such as tents, blankets, and folding beds.
Earlier on the same day, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence to Min Aung Hlaing, the head of Myanmar's military regime, expressing condolences and sympathy to the victims of the earthquake and their families, and promised to provide the necessary assistance to Myanmar.
