Samsung Electronics recently signed a lobbying contract with the company where Susan Wyles, the chief of staff at the White House, works.
According to the lobbying disclosure report of the U.S. Federal Senate on the 27th (local time), the U.S. branch of Samsung Electronics signed a contract with the lobbying firm "Continental Strategy" as of the 17th. This firm was founded by Carlos Trujillo, who served as the ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) during Trump's first term.
Notably, Katie, the daughter of Wyles, who can be considered a key figure in the Trump White House, works as a partner at Continental Strategy. When news of Wyles' chief of staff nomination broke last November, the company promoted Katie. Congressman Byron Donalds, a Republican who was also mentioned as Trump's running mate, noted, "It was a stroke of luck that Continental brought her on board."
However, KT is not registered as a lobbyist for Samsung Electronics. According to the report, Trujillo, who is the founder of Continental, Alberto Martinez, who served as the chief of staff during Marco Rubio's time as a senator, and Daniel Gomez, who is a former aide to Senator Deb Fischer, will act as lobbyists on behalf of Samsung Electronics.
It is speculated that Samsung Electronics is trying to enhance its business capabilities in the U.S. through lobbying. Samsung Electronics is building semiconductor manufacturing facilities in places like Taylor, Texas, and last year it was set to receive subsidies amounting to $4.745 billion (approximately 6.95 trillion won), which corresponds to about 12.8% of the total investment from the Biden administration, although President Trump has hinted several times at repealing the semiconductor law that serves as the basis for this.
