On the global e-commerce platform eBay, a post appeared on the 25th (local time) stating that Melania Trump is selling the wedding dress she wore when she married U.S. President Donald Trump in 2005. Melania married Trump, a real estate businessman, at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach, Florida, on Jan. 22, 2005, and she wore a Christian Dior wedding dress valued at 10 million won ($100,000) at that time. A person claiming to be the owner of the dress that Melania purportedly wore has posted it for sale on eBay. The wedding dress has attracted attention, with 253 people marking it as a 'watch item' within the last 24 hours.
The person selling the wedding dress on eBay is a woman named Svjabc1, who lives in Massapequa, New York. She listed the wedding dress for sale at $45,000. As reference photos, wedding pictures of Trump and Melania and a February 2005 Vogue cover featuring Melania in the dress were included. She added the description, "a body-hugging silhouette, a voluptuous 90m skirt, and embellished with 1,500 Swarovski diamonds." The dress weighs 60 pounds and took 550 hours to make, according to the details included.
The seller explained that she purchased the dress from Melania for $70,000 in 2020 for her own wedding. The seller also noted that she made several alterations to the wedding dress after buying it from Melania. She added embroidery and satin, and increased the size. It is said that the dress can be returned to its original size if the added fabric for size increase is removed.
However, it has not been confirmed whether the wedding dress listed on eBay is indeed the one worn by Melania. Her long-time stylist, Hervé Pierre, who prepared dresses for Trump's inaugurations in 2017 and 2025, told The New York Times (NYT) that, "two years ago, the wedding dress was kept at (Trump's residence in) Palm Beach, Florida." Since he mentioned two years ago, it is possible that Melania no longer owns the wedding dress. However, the person who wrote the post on eBay claimed to have purchased the wedding dress from Melania in 2010, so it is also possible that the dress on eBay is a replica.
The NYT reported, "Couture always has a label and number attached," and noted, "To confirm whether the dress belongs to Melania, it must be seen in person." Pierre explained that the wedding dress, which was kept in Palm Beach, had a label on the side and a ribbon with a number attached. However, there is no label visible in the photos of the wedding dress for sale on eBay. In response to this, the seller stated, "The seamstress removed the label when fixing the dress and did not reattach it."
The source of the wedding dress listed on eBay remains unclear. Since many replicas appear when a celebrity gets married, there is a possibility that it is a copy. The NYT stated, "Many people thinking the wedding dress on eBay could be Melania's reflects complex feelings about the Trump couple, their relationship, and the life they have monetized."
