When asked by reporters at the White House whether he agreed to the cessation of funding for the two media outlets, President Trump said, "I would like to do that."

He continued to claim that the two media are "very unfair" and called the tax support for them a "waste of money."

NPR was established in 1970 as a nonprofit foundation based on the "Public Broadcasting Act," and receives part of its operating expense from public funds. The nonprofit organization PBS is funded by other public broadcasters with equity stakes and public broadcasting-related funds.

President Trump is currently waging a "war on the media." On the 14th, he signed an executive order that is close to abolishing the Global Media Agency (USAGM), which oversees Voice of America (VOA) and Radio Free Asia (RFA), both of which receive government budget funding.
