Amid rising tensions between China and Taiwan, one of the great-grandsons of Chiang Kai-shek, Taiwan's first president, has declared the intention to move to mainland China, causing a stir.
According to reports on the 25th from the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP), Chiang Youqing, 35, a great-grandson of Chiang Kai-shek, announced on his Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) account during a live stream on the 19th that he will move to Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China. Chiang Youqing's grandfather is former President Chiang Ching-kuo, and his father is former Kuomintang Central Committee member Chiang Hsiao-yung.
Chiang Youqing noted, "I recently decided to settle down in mainland China and try a new way of life," and showcased images of his residence in mainland China. He mentioned that he plans to lease employee accommodations for starting a business in Hangzhou, introducing the appearance of his residence.
The news of the great-grandson of Chiang Kai-shek moving to mainland China has stirred reactions online amid increasing tensions between China and Taiwan following the inauguration of pro-American and anti-China President Lai Ching-te last year. While Chinese internet users welcomed Chiang Youqing's move with comments such as "Welcome home," Taiwanese netizens are showing resentment.
