Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, held a press conference on the 23rd (local time) and noted, “The general election will be held on April 28.” According to Canadian election law, the originally planned election date was October 20.

He said, “We are facing the most significant crisis of our lives due to Trump's unfair trade measures and threats to our sovereignty. Trump tries to divide us and wants to own us, but we will never let that happen.”

Carney, who took office on the 15th, following former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, used the support boost of the governing Liberal Party in light of Trump's threats against Canada to announce the early election card.

For the past 10 years, the Liberal Party, led by former Prime Minister Trudeau, had significantly lagged behind the Conservative Party, led by Pierre Poilievre, due to high inflation and other reasons before Trump's inauguration.

However, as tariffs were imposed and aggressive remarks against Canada continued, Canadians began to rally around the Liberal Party. Recent polls show that the Liberal Party's approval rating slightly leads that of the Conservative Party.
