Amid wildfires spreading across South Korea, large wildfires have been ongoing for the second day in Okayama Prefecture in southwestern Honshu and Ehime Prefecture in northern Shikoku.

According to local media including NHK on the 24th, these regions are facing challenges in extinguishing the fires despite local fire authorities receiving support from the Self-Defense Forces' helicopters.

In Okayama Prefecture, the burned area has already reached 250 hectares, and six buildings, including warehouses and dwellings, have been lost. In Ehime Prefecture, more than 128 hectares have burned.

Okayama City in Okayama Prefecture issued evacuation orders to about 890 local residents, which were lifted around 5:30 p.m. the same day. In Ehime Prefecture, evacuation orders were issued to about 1,880 local residents, including those in Imabari City, since the previous evening.

On the 26th of last month, a large-scale wildfire broke out in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Honshu. It was only suppressed on the 9th, but a declaration of containment has yet to be made. The area burned at that time was approximately 2,900 hectares, the largest since 1989.
