The three major indexes of the New York Stock Exchange in the United States are falling on the 18th (local time). Investors are focusing on the possibility that the Central Bank, the Federal Reserve, will hold a Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting for two days starting today and may freeze the benchmark interest rate.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average is currently down 0.54% from the previous session, recording 41,616.81. The Nasdaq is trading at 17,478.37, down 1.85%, while the S&P 500 index is down 1.1%, trading at 5,612.46.
Tesla and Nvidia are both down more than 6% and 3%, respectively. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, will deliver a keynote speech at the Developer Conference (GTC 2025) today. Investors believe that Nvidia's stock may fluctuate based on the next-generation graphics processing unit he will unveil during his keynote.
Investors believe there is a high possibility that the Federal Reserve will freeze the benchmark interest rate at the current level of 4.25% to 4.5%. Analysts say there is no need for the Federal Reserve to lower rates amid increased economic uncertainty caused by the tariff war initiated by the Trump administration.
