U.S. President Donald Trump noted on the 17th (local time) that Chinese President Xi Jinping, with whom the U.S. is engaged in a tariff war, will visit the United States soon.

According to Reuters, President Trump said at the Kennedy Center board meeting in Washington, D.C., that President Xi would visit the United States "in the not too distant future" without mentioning a specific time.
Previously, The Wall Street Journal reported that discussions were underway for a meeting between the two leaders in June. Notably, both leaders have birthdays in June, which adds significance to what is being called a "birthday summit." The two leaders had a phone call on January 17, just before President Trump's inauguration.
Additionally, President Trump is reported to have said he will talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the morning of the 18th during a meeting with reporters at the Kennedy Center.
According to reports, President Trump said, "Tomorrow (the 18th), I will talk with President Putin about plans to rescue soldiers in (Ukraine) who are in serious trouble. They are effectively held hostage and surrounded by Russian forces," adding, "Without my help, they would not be alive."
Following a White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the 28th of last month, when asked whether the cessation of military support and information sharing with Ukraine was the reason for their struggles on the front lines in the Kursk region, President Trump responded, "Not at all." He added, "Many are being killed there, and Ukraine should have been doing the right thing," stating, "I think they are doing the right thing now."
