A close aide stated that U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will have a currency conversation to discuss the end of the Ukraine war.
Steve Witkoff, a special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, noted in an interview with CNN on the 16th that "the two presidents will have a currency conversation this week," adding, "Last week’s meeting with President Putin was positive, and discussions took place on a solution for ending the war."
Special Envoy Witkoff met with President Putin in Moscow, Russia, on the 13th. He explained, "I reported to President Trump within 10 minutes after meeting with President Putin," and added, "President Trump is aware of all situations in real time and is involved in every decision."
Special Envoy Witkoff said, "Negotiations for the end of the war are making rapid progress," and noted, "There are still issues to discuss, but I believe the two presidents will have positive discussions this week."
Senior officials from the U.S. and Ukraine previously met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on the 11th and agreed on a "30-day ceasefire plan." However, there are prospects that the ceasefire negotiations will be difficult as Russia has not agreed to this. Special Envoy Witkoff explained, "I do not want to quote President Putin’s remarks verbatim," and added, "I see President Putin as accepting President Trump’s philosophy."
He further stated, "Some form of agreement will be reached in the coming weeks," and added, "This is the kind of progress we saw in Saudi Arabia."
