A teenage Namsung has gone viral after climbing on a table at a famous restaurant chain in China and urinating in a hot pot, prompting the headquarters to initiate a hefty refund action. The headquarters has decided to provide refunds and compensation to customers, with the related amount reportedly exceeding 2 billion won.
According to local media in China, including Jimu News, the hot pot specialty chain Haidilao, which has about 1,300 stores in China, announced the day before that it would fully refund the meal costs for 4,109 customers who visited the Shanghai store, where the so-called "urination terror" occurred, from the 24th of last month to the 8th of this month. Additionally, it stated that it would provide compensation amounting to 10 times each customer's meal expense, indicating that the total compensation would exceed 1 million yuan (about 2 billion won).
Haidilao stated, "All hot pots and tableware in the store have been replaced, and thorough disinfection has been conducted," adding, "We filed a civil lawsuit against the two Namsung on the 10th and will pursue accountability to the end." Local media reported, citing legal experts, that the compensation amount for damage to brand image and other issues could reach 1 million yuan (about 200 million won).
However, since the two males who committed the 'urination terror' and participated in the filming are both teenagers, it is expected that their guardians will be held responsible. The 17-year-olds have been detained by the Shanghai public security authorities, and there are claims that they should be prosecuted under the charge of "public disorder."
They visited a Haidilao store in Shanghai on the 24th of last month, climbed on a table in the room, filmed the act of urinating, and posted the video on social media. Since the 6th, the video has rapidly spread, causing an uproar in China, and the backlash against them has not subsided.
