The Democratic Party of the United States said on 4th (local time) that President Donald Trump's first joint address to Congress during his second term would incur significant expenses for the American people and threaten their safety.
Senator Elisa Slotkin took to the stage as the Democratic response speaker immediately after Trump's address and made this statement.
Slotkin said, "Your premiums and prescriptions will be more expensive," and added, "Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla) just called Social Security the biggest Ponzi scheme in history."
Regarding President Trump, she criticized him for making "unprecedented concessions to billionaire friends," thereby increasing the expenses that the citizens would have to bear.
She continued, regarding the recent clash between President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and President Trump, saying, "(President Trump) is cozying up to dictators like Vladimir Putin (President of Russia)," adding, "President Ronald Reagan must be rolling in his grave."
Slotkin urged the Democratic Party to not close their ears, stating that American democracy is in danger.
Slotkin, a centrist politician, served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023 before being elected to the Senate last year, defeating a Republican candidate, and began her term this year. Prior to entering politics, she held national security positions at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the White House.
