U.S. President Donald Trump made the final decision on the 3rd (local time) to impose an additional 10% tariff on China.
On the same day, President Trump signed an executive order at the White House to raise the total additional tariff on China to 20%. The U.S. has been imposing a 10% additional tariff on Chinese imports since the 4th of last month, which means an additional 10% has been added.
The White House noted, "Fentanyl is the leading cause of death among Americans aged 18 to 45, and its raw materials are produced in China." It further stated, "The Chinese Communist Party actively funds corporations that manufacture and export fentanyl. In response, President Trump has just raised the tariff on China to 20%."
The imposition of additional tariffs by the U.S. is expected to further escalate the U.S.-China tariff war. In response to Trump’s tariff announcement, China’s Ministry of Commerce has warned, "If the U.S. insists on this, China will take all necessary countermeasures to defend its legitimate rights and interests."
