A cargo plane from global express company FedEx made an emergency landing due to a bird strike.

According to the Associated Press on 1st (local time), around 8 a.m. that day, a FedEx cargo plane (Boeing 767) departed Newark Airport heading for Indianapolis when one of its engines was damaged due to a bird strike and returned to Newark Airport. There were three people on board, and no casualties were reported.

Immediately after the emergency landing, videos of the FedEx cargo plane landing with flames coming from its right wing engine were shared on social media, drawing attention.

The New York and New Jersey Port Authority's aircraft fire rescue team and DAEWON members were dispatched urgently to respond to the emergency landing. FedEx also noted that "the crew declared an emergency and safely returned to Newark Airport" and stated that they are currently investigating the incident.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there were approximately 19,603 bird strike incidents involving aircraft in the U.S. in 2023, averaging about 54 per day. Of these, 3.6% led to direct damage to the aircraft.
