U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the 25% tariff on Mexico remains in effect, while the Mexican government is engaged in last-minute negotiations.

Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, said on the 25th (local time) that "the negotiations must be completed by the deadline for the tariff exemption, which is the 4th of next month," adding, "discussions must conclude this week." He noted that "(President Trump) said he would impose tariffs proportional to taxes on U.S. products entering Europe, but I want to emphasize that there are no tariffs between the U.S. and Mexico."

However, President Sheinbaum stated that the contingency plan set up in anticipation of the tariffs becoming a reality "is still valid" and left open the possibility of retaliatory tariffs.

Earlier, President Trump, after meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House, said during a press conference that he is "moving forward on tariffs against Canada and Mexico in a timely manner."

According to Mexico, it exported $490.1 billion (approximately 685 trillion won) to the U.S. in 2023, ranking first in exports to the U.S. During the same period, the total value of goods imported from the U.S. was $255.4 billion (approximately 357 trillion won), marking a surplus of over 300 trillion won.
