U.S. President Donald Trump mocked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau again on the 20th (local time), calling him 'Governor Trudeau.'
President Trump noted on his social media platform, Truth Social, that he is scheduled to speak at the Republican Governors Association meeting in Washington, D.C., tonight, saying, 'Unfortunately, I can't attend (the finals). However, we will all be watching, and if Governor Trudeau wants to attend (the Governors Association meeting), he will be warmly welcomed.'
'I will call our great U.S. ice hockey team this morning to encourage them to win tonight's game against Canada,' he added, saying, 'Someday, perhaps soon, Canada will become our precious and very important 51st state with much lower taxes and stronger security.'
The ice hockey game mentioned by President Trump refers to the 'four-nation tournament' finals taking place that day.
Since the 12th, the tournament, featuring four countries including Sweden and Finland, has been conducted in a round-robin format, with the U.S. and Canada finishing in 1st and 2nd place respectively, set to face off in the finals in Boston today.
During the round-robin match between the U.S. and Canada held in Montreal on the 15th, Canadian spectators, outraged by President Trump's continued provocations, booed when the U.S. national anthem played, and a skirmish broke out between players from both teams during the game.
