British pop star Ed Sheeran was performing on the streets in India when he was stopped by police.

According to reports from AFP and Reuters on the 11th, Sheeran was performing a 'surprise performance' on Church Street in Bengaluru, Karnataka, southern India, on the 9th when he was interrupted by police.

It was reported that while Sheeran was singing his hit song 'Shape of You,' police suddenly unplugged the cables connecting his guitar and microphone, stopping the performance.

According to AFP, local police stated, 'The street performance of a very famous singer could cause chaos, so it was not permitted,' adding, 'Because the performance occurred despite this, we intervened.'

Later, Sheeran posted on his social media service (SNS), 'I had permission for the street performance in advance. It wasn't spontaneous,' but he added, 'It's okay though. See you at the concert tonight.'

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran came to India as part of his global tour. Last month, he became the first Western singer to hold a concert in Bhutan.
