A Chinese individual who lived secretly in the basement of a dwelling they sold was discovered after seven years.
On 3rd, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that on 2nd, a real-life incident resembling the film "Parasite" occurred in a dwelling in Jiangsu Province, eastern China.
According to SCMP, the owner of the dwelling, identified as Mr. Li, recently discovered that a former homeowner had lived secretly in the basement for seven years.
Mr. Li reportedly purchased the dwelling near Jiangsu Province for approximately 2 million yuan (approximately 400 million won) in 2018. It was only recently that he found signs of someone living in his house. While organizing the home, he discovered a hidden door leading to the basement behind the stairs.
Mr. Li reached out to the previous homeowner, Mr. Zhang, to inquire about this matter. However, Mr. Zhang reportedly responded that while he sold the house, he never stated that the basement was included.
Mr. Li filed a lawsuit, claiming that since he paid the full price for the property, the basement should legally belong to him. The Chinese court ruled that "the ownership of the basement lies with Mr. Li" and ordered Mr. Zhang to provide monetary compensation.
