White House Spokesperson Caroline Levitt said, "Brave Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents continue to arrest illegal immigrant criminals across communities in the United States," and noted, "We arrested a South Korean citizen who was convicted on charges of possessing materials that explicitly depict minors sexually."
Spokesperson Caroline explained that illegal immigrants from Mexico and Guatemala arrested along with the South Korean will be held in Guantanamo, Cuba.
According to the White House, the individual arrested this time, Mr. Im, was sentenced to five years in prison and 20 years of probation on charges of possessing nine pieces of child pornography. Mr. Im is expected to remain in a detention facility and be deported to South Korea soon.
President Trump pledged to carry out "the largest deportation operation in history" against illegal immigrants during the election. Accordingly, since the 20th, federal-level crackdowns on illegal immigrants have intensified across the United States, including at the southern border, following the inauguration of the Trump administration.
ICE has reportedly arrested over 460 illegal immigrants with criminal records during a 33-hour period starting from the day after President Trump's inauguration on the 21st of last month. According to statistics released by ICE on social media, over 5,500 illegal immigrants were arrested as of the 29th of last month.
