Analyses from foreign media indicate that North Korean troops deployed to the Kursk front in Russia are engaging in reckless human wave assaults against Ukraine's advanced weaponry.
According to a report by CNN on the 28th (local time), the behavior of North Korean troops on the battlefield can be summarized as "suicidal impulses and 1980s tactics."
CNN introduced footage obtained from the Ukrainian special operations forces and interviews with officials.
In the footage obtained by CNN, as Ukrainian soldiers approach a North Korean soldier who collapsed after a battle to check his vital signs, the North Korean soldier screams and detonates a grenade at his head. CNN reported, citing a South Korean National Intelligence Service report to the National Assembly, that the soldier's final screams referred to "General Kim Jong Un."
A commander of a Ukrainian special operations unit said, "They can blow themselves up with grenades," adding, "Despite any attempts to demand their surrender, they continue to fight." However, he pointed out that the North Korean troops are not prepared for modern drone warfare and the realities of the Ukrainian battlefield. He stated, "They are all young and well-trained strong warriors, but they are only prepared for the battlefield realities of the 1980s."
Through personal belongings secured from the bodies of North Korean soldiers, the methods the North Korean troops use to counter Ukrainian drones have been revealed. A handwritten note titled "Methods to Destroy Drones" stated, "When a drone is spotted, one of the three must act as bait from 10 to 12 meters away, while the other two should aim and shoot," and "as another method, since shells do not land in the same area, hiding in the crater is an option."
Another special operations commander remarked, "Our unit has killed 30 of them in a single day just by dropping bombs on them," adding, "They do not understand what they need to do."
Nevertheless, the North Korean troops are repeatedly attacking at the cost of significant losses. Some North Korean soldiers reportedly shed their heavy protective vests and helmets, rapidly attacking Ukrainian positions with lighter bodies.
Evidence has also emerged from North Korean personal belongings of indoctrination and surveillance being conducted to maintain combat effectiveness even in harsh conditions. One note contained phrases like, "The day will not be long before we deliver the iron hammer of death to the unknown puppet trash," and "We wield a mighty force that makes them tremble," as well as, "The world, watch out."
Another note, believed to be written by an officer, recorded accusations such as "He committed an unimaginably disgraceful act of stealing supplies," and "He failed to uphold the dignity of the Supreme Commander, prioritizing personal gain."
CNN reported that it is unclear whether the contents of these notes are heartfelt or if they are meant to demonstrate loyalty and protect families in case of death.
