U.S. President Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president, and the 'cola button' has also returned to the White House.
According to foreign media including The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and the New York Post on the 20th (local time), an emergency meeting was reportedly held at the White House at the time of President Trump's inauguration. On this day, dozens of White House staff removed the outgoing president's belongings and replaced them with those of the new president.
The 'cola button,' which had disappeared during the Biden administration, has reappeared after four years. President Trump installed the cola button in the Oval Office shortly after starting his first term in 2017. Pressing the round red button would provide the diet cola that Trump favored.
He previously told the Financial Times (FT) of the United Kingdom, 'Whenever I press that button, everyone gets a little nervous.'
Additionally, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), President Trump's Oval Office features portraits of founding fathers Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, the first president of the U.S. The portrait of former President Franklin Roosevelt, the 32nd president, has been replaced with that of Andrew Jackson, the 7th president. Former President Jackson is known to be a figure whom President Trump respects. During his first term, President Trump also displayed Jackson's portrait.
The WSJ noted, 'Unlike other workspaces within the White House, presidents tend to personalize the Oval Office. They choose artworks and artifacts that highlight their values and the goals of their administration. This serves to remind everyone of the changes that occur each time a new president takes office.'
