The United States Senate unanimously passed the confirmation of Secretary of State nominee Marco Rubio on the 20th (local time).

Rubio became the first Cabinet nominee from President Donald Trump's second-term administration to clear the Senate confirmation. The nomination of Rubio passed in the Senate with 99 votes in favor and 0 against.

Following the Senate confirmation, Rubio, a senator from Florida, will oversee the foreign policy of the Trump second-term administration. Secretary of State Rubio is the son of Cuban immigrants and has become the first Latino Secretary of State in the United States.

Rubio's Senate seat will be succeeded by Ashley Moody, the Attorney General of Florida.
