The funds gathered for the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump have broken a historical record.
According to ABC News and others on the 20th (local time), the funds gathered for Trump's inauguration reportedly reached a total of $250 million (about 362.7 billion won). This amount includes not only the official Trump inaugural committee but also other fundraising organizations preparing for the inauguration celebration this weekend.
This amount is more than double the previous record of $107 million (155.2 billion won) raised during Trump's first inauguration. In 2021, the amount raised by Joe Biden's inaugural committee was $62 million (about 89.9 billion won).
For Trump's second inauguration, corporations in the tech industry, including Meta, Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft (MS), OpenAI, and Uber, each contributed over $1 million (14.5 billion won). Particularly, while Apple, Amazon, Google, and MS have a history of donating to previous presidential inaugurations, this is Meta's first presidential inauguration donation. Sources have reported that companies in the cryptocurrency sector, such as Ripple, Robinhood, and Coinbase, contributed $5 million, $2 million, and $1 million, respectively. Notably, Boeing and Bank of America (BOA), which have traditionally donated to U.S. presidential inaugurations, also participated this time.
