HD Hyundai Oilbank said on the 14th that HD Hyundai ENF, its district energy subsidiary, has completed a liquefied natural gas (LNG) combined heat and power plant in the Daesan petrochemical complex in Seosan, South Chungcheong, and will begin supplying energy.
About 435 billion won was invested in building the LNG combined heat and power plant. HD Hyundai ENF, established in 2021, began construction of the plant in Mar. 2024 and built power and heat supply facilities over a little more than two years. After verifying the facilities' performance and stability through phased trial runs, it began commercial operation at the end of Jul.
The newly built plant has a power generation capacity of 290 megawatts (MW) and a heat production capacity of 321 tons (t) per hour. The plant uses a high-efficiency gas turbine combined cycle that runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG) to produce electricity and heat energy simultaneously.
The electricity and heat energy produced by HD Hyundai ENF will be supplied to corporations in the Daesan petrochemical complex, including H&L Advanced.
Song Myung-jun, president of HD Hyundai Oilbank, said, "The completion of this LNG combined heat and power plant is significant in that it further strengthens the energy infrastructure of the Daesan petrochemical complex," adding, "We expect HD Hyundai ENF to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of tenant corporations and to developing local industries based on a stable energy supply."
Kim Myung-hyun, CEO of HD Hyundai ENF, said, "We will do our best to operate the high-efficiency combined cycle facilities stably and supply electricity and heat without disruption," adding, "We will continue to improve facility efficiency to help our client companies improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions."
